How Many Eggs are in Your Work at Home Egg Basket?

Getting to work from home can be great. One of the things many people do is find more than one source of income, to protect their lifestyle. By having several sources of income, or income eggs in your basket, you protect your ability to earn, should something go awry.

Some, who are telecommuters, don’t worry as much because their job is considered as safe as any other full-time job but if you are a freelancer or have your own business, this isn’t always the case because you’re regularly searching for ways to earn. Several sources of income could mean safety and it could also mean that you’re making decent money.
Tips for Having Multiple Income Eggs

  • Find some quick paying go-to options. That way, if you’re in a pinch, you can get grocery money fast or money to take care of an unforeseen expense quickly. Wherever possible online entrepreneurs should have a few make money fast options.
  • Network. Talk to other entrepreneurs and freelancers. That way you can share leads and potentially share overflow work.
  • Work on developing some passive income streams. If you build websites with affiliate marketing, network marketing, or contextual advertising, for instance, the initial work could be time consuming but those sites could become passive for you, creating income that generates itself and presents you with monthly payments. Learn more about affiliate marketing and passive online income opportunities.

Strive for a delicate balance when adding income eggs. Too many could feel overwhelming and result in lack of balance but some regular ones, some passive income-building options, and some strategic fast-earners could be the ticket to reaching your financial and career goals.

Make Fast Money Online for Christmas

Are you anxious about making extra money fast for Christmas? The internet can help. Christmas can certainly be a stressful time for families who don’t have much extra money for Christmas presents. I wrote an article for Momphabet Soup about the topic recently for writers and it is getting a lot of traffic so it inspired some more advice for those looking for more work at home ideas. I know you don’t want to be scammed and you don’t want to waste your time so here’s some solid advice:

Here are a few ideas for things you can do with your computer to bring in some fast money, maybe even in time for Christmas shopping:

  • Paid Answer Sites. You can get paid to answer questions. Some of these sites pay via Google Adsense so you might not have the money before Christmas but they could help you have money by January / February for paying off those credit card bills.
  • Work on CloudCrowd. Facebook has an application called CloudCrowd where you can get paid daily via Paypal doing rewrites, categorizing websites, reviewing other people’s work, etc.
  • Sell stuff on eBay, Kijiji, or Craigslist. You can sell items in your garage / attic, shop thrift stores and yard sales, for finds that people might be interested in, start a basket business, or start a wholesale business you can set up on eBay. Many businesses will let you set up a dropship account and do all the shipping for you when you set up a virtual ebay store or niche website and if you don’t want to sell something online, you can use the internet to help you advertise locally. Do be careful about meeting anyone who responds to a classified ad!
  • Sell products on Clickbank. Once you meet their distribution agreement, Clickbank pays bi-weekly. If you don’t know much about Clickbank, it’s not the fastest way to make money but it’s a very lucrative proposition so consider using it for your ‘get out of debt‘ resolution in the new year.
  • Make Christmas money article writing. Many sites and individuals will pay you to write. Demand Studios pays twice weekly, Textbroker pays 2x monthly, and you can earn money online fast at Elance. Askables is also in the midst of rolling out a writer’s compensation plan but in the meantime you can make Adsense revenue there. You can also sell articles on job sites and write for passive income article sharing sites like HubPages, Squidoo, eHow, Xomba, SheToldMe, InfoBarrel, Bukisa
  • With an Elance bidding account, you can do various things to get paid online. Payments occur at varying times depending on how you bid (even instantly or in advance) for online articles, admin and data entry work, programming, sales and marketing, etc. Elance is an online job site and can transfer money via transfer, PayPal, Elance debit card, or by mailing a check.

This is certainly not an exhaustive list of online money making opportunities but there are a few suggestions here to help you get going. If you have suggestions or ideas that have been successful for you, feel free to share them here!

Passive Income Find of the Week – Orato

I joined Orato a few months ago but didn’t do anything with the site. This morning I saw it mentioned on a work at home forum so checked to see if I was already a member and sure enough, I already joined. How much can you earn at Orato? Here’s info on the Orato writer’s compensation model.

Orato looks a bit like Examiner.com where online journalists submit articles and share in revenue. Is this a good idea for your writing career? Of course rev share sites mean that you don’t get all your revenue but when sites are high ranking and get a lot of traffic (like eHow, for instance), it can be well worth your effort. Building your own blog and creating your own streams of passive income will always be a good idea but when you have a greater chance of your work being seen due to high traffic it can be a good idea to do both. Some sites can also be good for your writing career because they have enough clout that you can use them as writing samples.

I haven’t seen any results or discussions regarding how much writers can make from Orato but in my opinion, it’s definitely worth looking into. When eHow first tried recruiting writers for the ehow writers compensation program a lot of people were skeptical but many are now earning 4 figures a month on eHow so Orato might be worth trying out.

HubPages Challenge – Can You Make 30 Hubs in 30 Days?

While you’ll find many places to post content online, not all of them get loads of traffic and not all of them compensate you for your efforts. HubPages is one of the places that can do both. There are many places to get your work written work online. There are content-hungry directories and places where you can list your articles for sale. Some offer profit-sharing (eg Squidoo) and some don’t (eg EzineArticles). HubPages has some great revenue-earning potential and if you’re doing internet marketing, you can use it as a great SEO tool as well.

HubPages offers multiple ways to make income such as: Google, Yahoo, etc. They’ll allow you to post affiliate links but few and far between, as they want the articles / hubs to be of high value rather than just a link building tool. “Self-serving” links are discouraged and more than 2 per Hub are disallowed.

So what’s so great about HubPages? The income!

If you make your hubs extensive resources of information, they can get a lot of traffic. They rank really well in se’s. Take your article and then spend time to optimise it for high search volume, and for low google pagerank competition and based on high AdSense revenue words (you’ll find plenty of resources to help you learn these things!). My own hubs bring in a monthly income that nets in 4 figures in pounds sterling each year (closer to 5 figures when you convert to US Dollars!). Then there’s the eBay sales, Amazon sales, and link value. After a year, I’m seeing steady income and traffic. Some Hubs do take a while to mature and get good traffic and not all topics will be wildly popular but several of my hubs have been featured and gotten a lot of comments and attention from the community. Ready to go? You can sign up here or continue reading.

One of the ways to ensure you maximise your HubPage potential is to learn (if you don’t already know) how to publicise your work with social media tools, and backlink building. But, the best bit of all is that they’ve created a new program to get people signed up, helped along the way, and off to a flying start in the potential earning stakes.

HubChallenge

The “HubChallenge” was the brainchild of The Keyword Academy’s Courtney Tuttle. They endorse HubPages and can (for a fee) teach how to maximize earning potential. So HubPages have set up a small team of very experienced Hubbers (me included), to get people participating and creating the target of 30 Hubs in 30 Days. It’s simply that figures run by HubPages show that many Hubs will give you the critical mass to have a good income potential to build on.

Thirty hubs in a month is a committment and many Hubbers find the discipline to producing a piece of work every day is a great motivator. Some write for days (or even weeks!) then publish them all together. You might have unsold work lying around that can make a great Hub. The HubChallenge team will help and support both individually and via the Forum for the challenge.

As a passive income stream, you should definitely consider Signing up here – . By using this link you’ll get tagged to inform me of your signup via the system and then I will be in touch to help, as part of the HubChallenge team. I’m happy to get you started and productive within the HubPages system so you don’t have to work through the learning curve.

Beyond writing hubs for fun, and for profit (it is a lot of fun, by the way!) I write and publish a LOT of client Hubs, so part of my writing business now consist of making Hubs on a paid basis for clients. That’s a little like having your cake AND eating it. Yum!

Get Paid To Write At Daily Article

If you’re in search of places you can get paid to write, so you can become a 6 Figure Freelancer (or five figures, or heck, even 4 figures to start!), Daily Article is another source to remember. Some writers write articles specifically for this site and others use it when they’re unable to sell an article to a magazine, to a client, or when a sample article is not purchased by a potential client.

Membership fee? No, but Daily Article takes 20% of your fee.
Payout minimum? None. Daily Article pays as soon as they get paid.
Payment Method? PayPal
How much can you get paid? You set your own price.

Sell Your Freelance Articles

You can set your own price in the system and list the word count and topic. It’s a good idea to browse the site to see what prices others are charging so you can determine what the median price is for articles selling on the site.

The DailyArticle.com marketplace allows freelance writers to list their unique articles for sale and you get paid your 80% when the buyer purchases the article. They see a sample or an article scramble from the inquiry page and choose to place an order. The website staff verifies originality and quality before approving it to their customer base which includes existing customers and random site visitors.

Tip: Getting an up front fee for your writing can be great! But, If you want to make more from an article than a few dollars by selling it just once, consider learning about some passive writing income programs.

Update:

The day I wrote this blog post on April 20, I posted my first article. I chose an article I’d been hanging onto for about 6 months that a client couldn’t use on the Daily Article site. I posted it in the marketplace for $16 and on April 24 I had a PayPal payment of $12.80 for the article. While a lot of factors will dictate how quickly you sell an article, I did want to post this update to show that I have been able to successfully use this site.

The book No Money Marketing was written by me and Matthew Bredel. If you’d like to read it, you can get a free copy (value $97) through joining Tru-Guru, Matt’s subscription-based program that teaches people to become true online marketing gurus. (He’s offering a special now for $4.95 for a 30 day membership)
Those who buy a membership to Tru-Guru get several free bonuses and one of them is this book that’s filled with ideas of how to make money on the internet without an initial investment. Of course you’ll have paid the small subscription fee to get the free book but I do assure you, there are a lot of great ideas in there and the Tru-Guru subscription can be cancelled at any time (plus offers a money back guarantee).

Learning to make money online

Some people look for work at home jobs to make extra money. But many of them soon realize that there is a huge potential for a home-based business that you’re the boss of instead. Instead of working for someone else, you could start several different types of online businesses such as: affiliate marketing biz, creating an online dropshipping store, to create and market your own products, and more.

The most important aspect of searching for income opportunities on the web is research and Matthew Bredel has bundled several years of trial, error, research, and great results into his informative products.

Check out his free SEO Exciter Series to get a free sampling of his helpful teaching style when he shows you more than the basics of how he uses organic search engine optimization techniques to dominate the search engines in his niche (bringing him traffic and profit!).

I’d love your feedback on what you think of the book and the Tru-Guru program.

Cheers to your online success!

Work at Home Payments: Setting Up PayPal

When you earn money online, PayPal is one of the easiest ways to get paid. It is the defacto standard for those who make money online in terms of getting paid quickly and easily.

Setting it up is easy and getting paid is as easy as someone using your designated PayPal e-mail address. When someone pays you, the system walks them through a process and there isn’t a PayPal account number to be concerned with. They simply allocate the payment to the address you provided PayPal with when you set up your account. When someone pays you, you’ll get an e-mail notification at the same address.

There are things you should know about a PayPal account and here are some basic tips and PayPal FAQ’s for beginners:
paypalaccounts-thumb

Personal PayPal Accounts

Basic / personal accounts are free. You don’t have to pay any fees from amounts you are paid. As soon as you exceed a dollar value received per month and / or someone attempts to pay you with a credit card, your account needs to be upgraded to a Premier account. When that happens, you’ll pay a % of every payment.

Everyone is allowed (per PayPal Terms of Service) to have two accounts so it is advantageous to keep a basic account and sign up for a premium account as well. A lot of people start off with a Personal account and upgrade (or start a second account) later on.

Premier PayPal Accounts

The premier account will require you to pay a fee. This ranges depending on several factors including:

  • What type of payment is made to you (cash payment or credit card)
  • The amount of the transaction
  • Where the payment is coming from (Some countries have surcharges on payments)

When you receive your payment, you’ll get a notice via email either that:

  1. You have new funds
  2. Funds are on the way

When you have new funds, the money is in your account (minus any fees) and you can use it to spend online, transfer to your bank account, or you can request that a cheque be sent to you.

How long does it take for PayPal payments to transfer to your bank?

When you transfer it to your bank account, the transaction typically takes 2-3 days (although PayPal stipulates up to 10 business days). You’ll probably notice a pattern after a few transfers that tell you how long your bank takes to receive the money and what time the funds usually arrive.

If you receive a notice that tells you funds are on the way, someone has sent you an e-check. E-checks can take up to a few weeks to clear and all you can do is wait for a notification from PayPal that says the funds cleared.

Setting up your bank account on PayPal
addpaypalbankaccount-thumb
You can set up a bank account easily. You provide PayPal with your bank information and then wait a few days. You’ll see two amounts (below $1.00 each) deposited into your bank account. When those amounts arrive, you simply log in to PayPal and confirm the amounts received. PayPal does this so they can determine they have your correct banking information for future deposits.

PayPal Bank Withdrawals
paypaldirections-thumb

If you attempt to pay an invoice that you don’t have the funds for, it will initiate an e-check from your primary bank account in the PayPal system so it’s important to be careful when making payments. If you live in Canada or the UK and you have an available balance in your US funds account, you’ll need to move money between currencies to purchase something online or make a payment in another currency otherwise, it will initiate an e-check.

If you live in the U.S, PayPal will give you a debit card that allows you to make purchases or withdrawals from an ATM bank machine. You can also make withdrawals to your own bank account.

Beyond the fees you pay when you receive your money, if you transfer a small amount of money to your bank account (under $150.00) you’ll also be charged a transaction fee of $0.50. This is removed from your transfer fee.

PayPal Payments

If you try to make a payment in a currency for which you have a zero balance, an e-check can be initiated and this can take weeks to clear and your bank may have service charges if the e-check cannot be processed due to insufficient funds.

While PayPal does have fees, this service is definitely a must-have for anyone who wants to work at home and make money with their computer. It’s a fast and safe way to make and receive payments.

You can run plenty of reports from PayPal to help you with your records and they have other tools such as invoicing tools as well. Once you do get a lot of money happening in your account, they also offer PayPal merchant services and you can benefit from a lot of tools to help your online business run smoothly.

Make Money On Xomba

If you’re trying to make money from home, you should look for as many passive income streams as possible. You should also look for some ways to socially promote your passive income efforts. I’ve recently learned about Xomba which seems to provide a great way to do both.

Make Money From Home Through Xomba

Xomba is a site I recently joined that has a few benefits. First, it shares Google Adsense with you 50/50. Second, it pays you an additional 10% of revenue through referrals. Third, it provides a great way to showcase other work of yours online. You can write Xombytes (articles) or Xomblurbs (social bookmarks) that can bring you traffic to your other revenue-generating sites. I’ve only been dabbling for a bit but am already getting some page impressions. Check out Xomba here. Don’t be afraid to sign up through a referral code as you won’t lose any of your earnings and after you’ve signed up, you can refer others and earn from their contributions.

The more passive income streams, the better and again, this site does two things for you because you can socially bookmark your online articles such as: your Bukisa articles, your eHow articles as well as promote your other online work as well.
