Work At Home Resumes – Are You Making It To The Short Pile?

When you come across what looks like a perfect work at home opportunity, it can be frustrating to wait for a reply after applying. If you don’t hear back you wonder if it was something you said or something you didn’t say. The fact is, some companies that offer telecommuting jobs are just so backlogged with resumes that you might not hear from them unless you do two important things:

  1. You follow their directions closely first and then
  2. You make sure you stand apart as a cut above the others in the short pile
  3. A hiring manager will generally sift through the large pile of resumes and glance quickly to decide if the pile will go into the trash or into a short pile to be looked at more closely. In work at home opportunities there is often a larger number of applicants than the advertiser initially expected so it starts off as a process of elimination before it becomes a close look at skills and suitability.

Here are some tips for getting from the tall pile in the resume inbox to the short pile of resumes actually being considered.

    Follow Directions!

Follow directions! Because the interviewer has to weed through a lot of responses, they’re not going to read it if something is off from the start. Some companies put a test in their classified ad to make sure you can follow instructions such as asking for the resume to be sent in a specific format. Be sure you read and re-read the applying instructions otherwise you might get deleted before you’re even read.

    Are You Qualified?

Don’t apply unless you truly are qualified. This is almost always true in a high demand work at home job because of the vast number of resumes coming in. Some hiring managers get hundreds or even thousands of responses when they send out a call for new hires so typically aren’t looking for an inexperienced intern. There are times when these types of learning opportunities are available but generally in the highly competitive telecommuting world those are few and far in between unless you have an inside scoop.

    Personalize Your Application

Take the time to personalize the application. You might be sending your resume out to 100 work at home jobs a day but each prospective employer needs to see that you’ve taken the time to understand their advertisement. While it’s ok to use a template that you update for each job you apply for instead of taking the time to craft a brand new resume and cover letter, if you send a form letter you might be ignoring a specific direction on the classified ad and you won’t appear original enough. Take some time to research the company and you can inject a bit of this research into your resume. Showing you’ve taken the time to learn about the company can set you apart from the crowd.

The WAH Science of Forex

What is Forex? Foreign Exchange is what the acronym stands for and it’s the exchanging of currency to earn a profit. Foreign exchange is big business on the internet and a lot of people who do it earn it at home in their spare time.

Profiting from foreign currency is something that isn’t just a simple science…it requires a lot of knowledge about pips and trading times and it’s a fast moving cycle that could net you big profits or losses.

If you want to get into Forex, you might consider buying an automation program that helps you. You can buy memberships, ebooks and other programs that can help you maximize your earning potential.

As an illustration, if you buy US funds with UK funds on day one and then on day two sell it back, you could have a profit. This might equate to small profit at first but as your profits grow you can invest more of your profits into this and yield higher dividends.

One of the secrets is to play it safe at first and play with your profits and then if you do have losses, you haven’t lost anything because you lost from previously earned profits. A lot of people are capitalizing on this. You can learn systems manually or you can cut some corners by getting into a program such as Forex Autopilot

Setting up PayPal for Your Work at Home Income

PayPal is a company owned by eBay that allows you to buy online without a credit card. This service can also be used to get paid for your online income. The way it works is quite simple and best of all, it’s secure.

Why Use PayPal?

PayPal is like a go-between service between the Internet and your bank account. If you receive money in PayPal, you can transfer it to your account without revealing personal financial details and if you want to buy something online, you can transfer the money to someone else. In the WAH world, getting paid is the whole point to it all and by having PayPal you can earn money without waiting for cheques to arrive in the mail.

Setting up Your Account

Setting up an account is simple. Sign up at: www.PayPal.com and enter your details. Be sure that you have your bank account information handy as you’ll need to input it. Information needed is avaialble on your personal checks and if you need specific information about bank transit numbers, etc. you can contact your bank or visit their website.

PayPal Transfers

Once your details are in, you’ll need to watch your account. PayPal will send you two small deposits (generally below $1.00 each) and to confirm your bank account, you’ll need to input those exact amounts into the PayPal system which happens within a few business days. Then you’re ready to start using your account. Someone can pay you by having your e-mail address associated with your PayPal account and once you’ve received a payment, you’ll get an e-mail notifying you the payment is either live or pending clearance of an e-check.

Lead Time for Payment Clearance Through PayPal

Generally, e-checks take 5-10 days to clear and for most people, PayPal transfers into your bank account take 2-3 business days.
